چکیده

We give a generalized definition of stretch that simplifies the efficient construction of lowstretch embeddings suitable for graph algorithms. The generalization, based on discounting highly stretched edges by taking their pth power for some 0 < p < 1, is directly related to performances of existing algorithms. This discounting of high-stretch edges allows us to treat many classes of edges with coarser granularity. It leads to a two-pass approach that combines bottom-up clustering and top-down decompositions to construct these embeddings in O(m log log n) time. Our algorithm parallelizes readily and can also produce generalizations of low-stretch subgraphs.

Effects of differential stretching protocols during warm-ups on high-speed motor capacities in professional soccer players.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of different modes of stretching within a pre-exercise warm-up on high-speed motor capacities important to soccer performance. Eighteen professional soccer players were tested for countermovement vertical jump, stationary 10-m sprint, flying 20-m sprint, and agility performance after different warm-ups consisting of static stretching, dynamic...

The acute effects of dynamic and ballistic stretching on vertical jump height, force, and power.

Stretching before performance is a common practice among athletes in hopes of increasing performance and reducing the risk of injury. However, cumulative results indicate a negative impact of static stretching and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) on performance; thus, there is a need for evaluating other stretching strategies for effective warm-up. The purpose of this study was t...

Effects of Static and Dynamic Stretching on Agility Performance in Tennis Players

Background & purpose: Most sports individuals or athletes including tennis players perform stretching during warm-up prior to physical activity in order to prevent injuries and enhance sports performance by improving flexibility. Traditionally static stretching exercises have been a prominent feature of warm up routines. On the other hand, dynamic stretching improves knee joint position sense, ...

Immediate effects of two types of stretching techniques on glenohumeral internal rotation deficit and posterior shoulder tightness; a crossover randomised controlled trial

Objectives: Various stretching techniques have been proposed to prevent or improve Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit (GIRD) and Posterior Shoulder Tightness (PST). Common stretching techniques include modified sleeper stretch and cross-body stretch. The current evidence is unclear which stretching technique is more effective. This study aimed to examine immediate effects of modified sleepe...

Acute effects of passive muscle stretching on sprint performance.

The results of previous research have shown that passive muscle stretching can diminish the peak force output of subsequent maximal isometric, concentric and stretch-shortening contractions. The aim of this study was to establish whether the deleterious effects of passive stretching seen in laboratory settings would be manifest in a performance setting. Sixteen members (11 males, 5 females) of ...

Does acute passive stretching increase muscle length in children with cerebral palsy?

BACKGROUND Children with spastic cerebral palsy experience increased muscle stiffness and reduced muscle length, which may prevent elongation of the muscle during stretch. Stretching performed either by the clinician, or children themselves is used as a treatment modality to increase/maintain joint range of motion. It is not clear whether the associated increases in muscle-tendon unit length ar...
